Ghana’s self-acclaimed dancehall king Shatta Wale has yet again got international recognition with his songs Ayoo, My level and Mamas Story.
Charles Nii Armah Mensah, professionally known as Shatta Wale was voted for as Artist of the year in 2014 at the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.
He is a musician, a songwriter, an actor and a business. He has over 800 songs released when he came back with a new brand name ‘Shatta Wale.’ He started his music career with a brand name ‘Bandana’ but went on a break for years to re-brand himself.
Shatta Wale is known for 100s of hits, Ayoo, My life, Dancehall king, Bullet Proof, My Baby, Confuse, Adwenfi, Bie Gya, Fuufu Kwa, Hossana, Everybody like my thing, Gringo, Ogbordobidi, to mention a few. He has also been featured in movie roles as a character. Such of his movies are The trial of Shatta Wale, Shattered Lives and Never say Never.
Last year (2020) the self-acclaimed dancehall king was featured on Beyonce’s album ‘The Lion King.’ And now he has had his three songs (Ayoo, Mama’s Story, My Life) been featured in a movie directed by a Spanish filmmaker called Estaban Crespo.
The aforementioned songs were played in
the background during a pub scene where the Spanish characters were singing the lyrics of the songs out loud and were jamming to it.
It is not surprising to hear Ghanaian songs featured in the movie. This is because some of the scenes were shot right here in Ghana (Cape Coast). The movie is titled Black Beach.
