A report filed by JoyNews indicates that the price of one of Ghana’s most popular and patronized delicacies, Gari and beans- widely known as Yoo no Gari or Gob3 or Gari Ne Adua has shot up.
The increase in the price of the meal is a result of the 100% rise in the price of beans on the consumer market since October 2021.
In the Ashanti Region, a bowl of Gob3 which used to sell at ¢1 is now selling at ¢1.50, the cheapest now.
A couple of Gob3 sellers in Kumasi who spoke to JoyNews revealed that they’ve increased their prices to reflect the price of a bag of beans.
A Gob3 seller at Ayigya said despite the fact that she’s increased her prices, she barely makes profits.
“I have stopped selling the beans at 1.00 cedis, it’s now 1.50pesewas or 2.00 cedis. Though I have increased the prices I hardly make profits like I used to,” Seller, Afia Mensah lamented.
A customer, Godbless Nuamah who isn’t happy about the increase in Gob3 price also had the following to say; “Beans is one of my favourite foods because it’s less expensive as compared to the other foods,”
“With four cedis I used to get satisfied but now I have to buy more than four cedis or I have to go for a second round to get fully satisfied.”
